Diane Lane and Secretariat share a horseback riding vacation to remember
Secretariat – The Movie
Secretariat, the movie, tells the story of Penny Chenery and her United States’ Hall of Fame racehorse, Secretariat. In 1973, Secretariat became the first horse in twenty-five years to win the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. The story centers around Penny Chenery, who took over the financially troubled Meadow Stable from her ailing father, as she guides Secretariat through his Triple Crown season. Other key characters are trainer Lucien Laurin and jockey Ron Turcotte.

Newsweek sports columnist Pete Axthelm, who rarely met a race track he didn’t like, described Secretariat best.
“Secretariat generates a crackling tension and excitement wherever he goes,” Axthelm wrote. “Even in the kind of gray weather that shrouds lesser animals in anonymity, Secretariat’s muscular build identifies him immediately; his glowing reddish coat is a banner of health and rippling power. Magnificent enough at rest … when he accelerates … he produces a breathtaking explosion that leaves novices and hardened horsemen alike convinced that, for one of those moments that seldom occur in any sport, they have witnessed genuine greatness.”
