Horseback Riding Vacation in Chile’s Colchagua Valley

Considering a trip to Chile? While Chile’s Colchagua Valley is know for its wines, there is more to do in this region than wine tasting.  In fact, rodeo is the national sport of Chile.  There are several ways to enjoy a horseback riding vacation in Chile.

National Geographic’s Giovanna Palatucci recently returned from a trip to Chile where she learned alternative ways to explore the South American country. During her tour of the eco-friendly Clos Apalta Winery, Palatucci rode through the vineyards on horseback. Located 150 miles south of Santiago, Chile, the Colchagua Valley is cowboy country.

Chilean Rodeo  and Polo Horseback Riding Vacation

As is the rodeo, polo is also an important way of life in some areas of Chile. Simply listening to the music on the website of the family-run Viña Casa Silva sparks  my enthusiasm for travel to Chile. Pictures of polo ponies running with vineyards set in the background show the close relationship of  horses with wineries.   While polo is viewed as an expensive sport, travelers looking for an affordable horseback riding vacation may overnight at Casa Silva Hotel,  request a wine-paired lunch and watch the winery’s  equestrians demonstrate Chilean rodeo horseback riding skills.
