Pebble Beach Equestrian Center Welcomes All Horseback Riders
You can smell the money as you pass through the gates of Pebble Beach. Actually, that’s not a true statement. You can smell the salt air of the Pacific Ocean after riding through the Del Monte Forest in Pebble Beach. But you know what I mean. Jaquar and Bentley cars are more the norm along the back roads of Pebble Beach in California. However, when you turn down Portola Road and Alva Lane to the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center, the estates and mansions fade into the woodwork, or more appropriately, they sit majestically behind rock walls and manicured shrubbery.
Beach and Forest Rides on your Horseback Riding Vacation
The Pebble Beach Equestrian Center, with its 35 horses, (not including privately boarded horses) offers beach and forest trail rides for your horseback riding vacation. The beach trail ride takes equestrians, of any riding level, through some of the most breathtaking spots in California. The walking only trail rides take horseback riders through Del Monte Forest, past world-famous Spyglass Hill fairways and the exclusive Cypress Point Golf Club. Yes, this is the golf club that turned down Tiger Woods request to play the course. They are a privately owned golf club which grants them the right to refuse admittance to anyone.
Horseback Riding Vacation along 17 Mile Drive
The beach trail ride does not actually go directly on the beach. Rather, the horses walk alongside the beach, on a well worn trail that is equine-friendly and environmentally mindful of the flora and fauna in this lovely setting. In fact, our personable and knowledgeable guide, Laura Krajcar, stopped our trail ride several times, mindful of the golfers playing on the courses around us. The well trained horses were not at all fazed by golf carts driving by or crossing 17 Mile Drive on our return to the Del Monte Forest. Along the horseback ride, Guide Laura pointed out some of the interesting architecture, from the Frank Lloyd Wright designed clamshell beach house to the actual “Gingerbread House” used in the original Hansel and Gretel movie.
Pebble Beach Trail Ride
The beach ride is an hour and 20 minute ride and is priced at $90. The beach trail ride is offered four times daily and is a great horseback riding vacation for rides 12 years and over. The forest trail ride, priced at $80, takes equestrians through the Del Monte Forest and sand dunes overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This trail ride is suitable for families with children ages 7-12, however ride times varies so call the stables directly. As always, check the website for current prices.
